Bottle n° 1:
Coteaux Champenois - Marc Augustin
Cuvée Lune Rousse - Coteaux Champenois Orange - Village d'Avenay Val D'or / Montagne de Reims (Between Reims and Epernay) - Marne - 75 cl - Chardonnay 1er Cru. Number of bottles produced: 300.
Another total UFO (as is often the case with Marc Augustin): An orange champagne wine made in amphora with 720 days of maceration! Pure experimentation for this complex wine with notes of yellow fruit and white pepper. Glass stopper sealed with beeswax.
Bottle n° 2:
Champagne Jérôme Lefèvre
Composition # 3 - Village of Saulchery / Marne Valley, northern, north of the Champagne appellation. 75 cl - Pinot noir and meunier. Number of bottles produced: 1,000. Certified organic.
I'm still not sure whether Jérôme is more artist than winemaker, or more winemaker than artist, so intertwined are these two notions that are truly present in his wines. Composition # 3 is no exception, with a surprising blend of "young pinot noir" and "expressive meuniers", as indicated on its green skeleton label. Fruity, particularly seductive, original and very rare.
Bottle n° 3:
Célia & Stéphane Parmantier - Coteaux champenois rouge de Chamery
Village de Chamery / Montagne de Reims / North of the Champagne appellation - 75 cl - Meunier - Certified organic - Demeter & Vegan. No added sulfites. Number of bottles produced: 699.
Stéphane Parmantier is one of the best people I've met in Champagne. He's one of the rising stars everyone's talking about, but more importantly, he makes three magnificent and very confidential biodynamic champagnes every year. This coteaux champenois is no exception. A 100% meunier red from a single plot, lightly macerated in barrel. A great wine to be drunk young or forgotten in the cellar for the next 10 years.
Bottle n° 4:
Champagne Romain Hénin
Le Gamin du Terroir - Aÿ / Marne Valley. 60% chardonnay, 40% meunier. 75 cl - Extra brut - Number of bottles produced: 2,520.
If there's one winemaker who's managed to put himself in the spotlight in Champagne, it's him! You should visit his lush vineyards and listen to him talk about his highly original grassing techniques, the fruit trees he plants in his vineyards, his organic and biodynamic growing practices, his cuvées vinified without inputs or sulfites... Romain is inexhaustible, and his bottles are sold at a premium.
Bottle n° 5:
Champagne Jérôme Blin
Cuvée Les Ports - Village de Vincelles / Marne Valley / Marne / - 75 cl - Vintage 2020. Zero dosage - Certified organic. Number of bottles produced: 1,690.
As always with Jérôme, this champagne seems to have no pretensions other than to drown us in immediate pleasure. This bottle is made with Meunier and a blend of Petit Meslier, Pinot Noir and Pinot Blanc, all from the same plot (coplantée). Slightly rosé in color, the palate evokes notes of white fruit and citrus.
Bottle n° 6:
Champagne Jérome Lefevre
Cuvée Playing With Fire. Champagne rosé - Village de Saulchery / Marne Valley, north of the Champagne appellation - 75 cl - Superb champagne rosé made from meunier blended with an experimental red pinot noir. Number of bottles produced: 900.
